Qatar was the first Arab country to host a FIFA World Cup. The 2022 FIFA World Cup took place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022. It was the first World Cup held in an Arab nation, and only the second to be held in Asia.
The tournament was one of the most eventful and spectacular in the World Cup’s history with Argentina emerging in a sensational final as winners, with Lionel Messi lifting the country’s third World Cup title following a dramatic final victory against France. Approximately 4,000 England fans and 3,000 Wales fans made the trip to Qatar to lend their support to their respective teams.

These investments are estimated to have cost over $220 billion and formed part of the country’s National Vision 2030. In the run up to the games, Doha also introduced landmark labour reforms and became the first Gulf State to invite the International Labour Organisation – which promotes worker standers – to set up a permanent presence locally. This has helped make Qatar the most progressive state for workers’ rights in the Gulf.
Together these developments not only enabled Qatar to host a highly successful tournament but have created a lasting legacy which looks set to benefit both the country and the wider region for generations to come.

David Beckham – Generation Amazing
This was made possible by Generation Amazing Foundation, which has been using the power of sport to enrich people’s lives for over a decade. It has reached out to more than 35 countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas, helping communities come together through football by providing the equipment needed to play and building quality football pitches so young people have a space to gather and socialise.
We’re committed to going beyond the World Cup. We look forward to using football and other sports as a tool for social development and empowering youth globally.
