Doha is today a city with one of the fastest-growing hotel and hospitality markets in the world. Over 150 new hotels were built for the World Cup, and all of these are expected to welcome tourists for years to come.
The World Cup attracted 1.4 million football fans to Doha. It was by any test a remarkable success. A BBC Sports poll found the tournament to the best World Cup of this century, Qatar is now aiming to attract up to six million tourists a year by 2030.
The country is fortunate in that around 80% of the world’s population is within a six-hour flight from Qatar.
